"HAT'S OFF" to the EMERGENCY HOT CHOCOLATE BRIGADE!

Shy about meeting new people? Just don a big fiberglass cup of hot chocolate (with marshmallows) on your head, and stroll around the 14 different venues of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games, and the three venues of the Paralympics, singing and passing out hot chocolate. That is THE very best way to meet people from all around the world, learn 83 new ways to say "Hello" or "Thank you" get hugs and kisses, pins from many countries, and pictures taken with you. The Emergency Hot Chocolate Brigade was a hit!! Pictures of us will be in scrapbooks across the nation and in many, many foreign countries. We felt like Minnie Mouse at Disneyland. Everyone loved us! It kind-of gave us a false sense of self-esteem, but oh, well!

We were featured on each of the local TV stations, and even national TV with Al Roker on the Today Show. We sang for radio stations in Nashville and Florida, as well as the big town of Park City. We sang on the Jumbo-tron at Soldier Hollow (Cross Country events), Utah Olympic Park (Skeleton and Bobsleigh), and Snow Basin (Downhill skiing). We performed for television stations from the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, and a few Russian countries. Many articles and pictures about us have been seen in newspapers around the region.

All in all, it was a wonderful, glorious experience to volunteer as the "Emergency Hot Chocolate Brigade". Everyone always had a smile on their face - not sure if they were laughing at us or with us... and when we ran out of hot chocolate, we warmed them up in other ways - singing, teasing, and posing for pictures. After all, it was our job to ensure that everyone we met were warmed up! (Our fireman was particularly good at his job - single, handsome, 26 years old... you get the picture!)

It will be an experience we'll never forget, as we were able to serve up a little hot chocolate, a little bit of music,  and a whole lot of smiles to people from all around the world.
